Kokone’s anger didn’t subside even after she returned Morio’s phone to him.

“Everything in me is telling me not to like that bearded guy!”

After getting his phone back, Morio noticed something fishy happening in front of them.

“Hey, Kokone. Check him out…”

Their eyes locked with a pale-faced man in work clothes standing next to the gas pumps. Perhaps because Morio had spotted him, the man was suspiciously retreating to the side of the fat man standing behind him, presumably his companion. The fat man turned away in a panic, but Morio and Kokone could see the words SHIJIMA MOTORS OSAKA TECHNICAL RESEARCH FACILITY printed on the car beside them. The only reason people from Shijima would be there was Kokone and the tablet.

“…Beardy’s friends, huh?”

“Gah! What’ll we do?”

Morio had an epiphany. “Okay. Go to sleep, right now.”

“Wait, why?”

“Why? You can use magic in your dreams, can’t you?”

“Uh?! I mean, I can’t right now. I just woke up.”

“Like that would stop you. You’re always sleeping.” Morio was half joking, but Kokone was earnestly defending herself. Seriously? he thought, but he immediately started thinking of another plan. First, since the men were both focused on Kokone, Morio sneaked out of the waiting room alone. He crawled away from where they could see him and made his way to the fully fueled Heart. He tapped the motorcycle’s autopilot menu screen and entered a destination.

“You go home without us.”

If the motorcycle had driven itself all this way, then Heart should be able to drive back to Shimotsui unassisted.

Morio tapped the HOME button on the autopilot menu and started the engine. The motorcycle rolled forward.

With no passengers, Heart wheeled itself out of the gas station, turn signals flashing, and drove off at a safe pace.

“Go, Heart,” Morio whispered from behind a pillar.

The two men, noticing that Heart had suddenly left the gas station, chased after it in a panic.

“Damn it!”

Once they were gone, Morio went to get Kokone from her hiding place in the waiting room.

As soon as she realized Heart was nowhere to be found, she worriedly asked him, “Where’s Dad’s bike?”

“Don’t worry; trust me.” He urged Kokone on despite her uncertainty, and the two ran in the opposite direction of Heart.

After a while, the men in work clothes returned to the gas station. The two didn’t appear to get regular exercise. Shoulders heaving, they peered into the waiting room to find that Kokone and Morio had disappeared. Dismayed, they both pulled out their phones to contact someone.
